- 76 teams travel to Madison hoping their best-dressed words will pass airport security
- Each team will have 4 or 5 competing poets
- Preliminary competition will take place Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday night
- Each team will compete two nights, rest the third night
- Competition rounds are called "bouts." Each bout has four teams.
- In a bout, each team has four opportunities to perform and score points
- Points are assigned by a panel of five judges, randomly selected from the audience
- At the end of prelims, teams with the top 25 cumulative scores will advance to Friday's semi-finals.
- Top four scoring teams from semis will advance to Saturday's Finals Night Showcase!
